This Makar Sankranti, Be the Reason Someone Smiles

A Tribute to Generosity, Kindness, and Optimism at Sadbhavana Vrudhashram

Makar Sankranti is not merely an event or a celebration in the strictest sense of the term. It symbolizes the cycle of nature and the basis of human existence as well. It denotes the fact that with the advent of every darkest night, there comes a brightest and most radiant day; with the onset of every cold season, there comes the warmth of the sun; and when there are troubles and difficulties, there springs hope and expectations. It symbolizes the day when the sun proceeds to head to the northern side, with an indication of the onset of hope and gratitude in life. When there are kites soaring in the air and there are festivities and goodies in the homes, it merely imparts the lesson to spread the love and the warmth beyond the scope and spirit of the celebration on the day of Makar Sankranti.

What a great idea it would be to allow this Makar Sankranti time to bring us to a simple  question that could forever change our lives. Is it possible that my joy and happiness become the source of someone else’s?

Religious & Social Importance Of Makar Sankranti

In India, people mark the festival of Makar Sankranti differently in various ways, but still, the same meaning of the festival is only to spread sweetness and share selflessly. The tradition of sharing sesame seeds and jaggery with the words Tilgul ghya, goad goad bola is also a teaching for us to always be kind and use loving words.

As when the sun alters its orbit to cause an increase in the number of days in the summer season

Donating eatables, clothing, as well as necessary things on the occasion of Makar sankranti has been a long-held tradition that has been thought to be extremely auspicious. It has been a belief that doing so would give people peace, happiness, as well as happiness for a long life. Helping the needy, especially the seniors, is a part of the actual festival as well.

Why Donate to Sadbhavana Vrudhashram This Makar Sankranti?

Today, the world is going at such a headlong speed that a good number of seniors are getting left behind: emotionally, socially and, in some cases, financially as well. Some senior citizens, after sacrificing their whole lives for kids and society, don’t get their fair share in the form of love and care. Old age does not deafen the cries of loneliness, in fact, it makes loneliness louder, and once occupied rooms become silent.

Sadbhavana Vrudhashram has been established to give elders a new lease of life.

It is not merely an old age home where one can find respect, safety, and a sense of belonging. The elderly who live here get everything they need such as food, medical care, a home, and family, like love and care. Nevertheless, it is not easy without the continuous community involvement and the generosity of the people to run such a facility.

Transferring Celebration into Compassion

MAKAR SANKRATI

We celebrate Makar Sankranti by reuniting with families, flying kites, and indulging in lip-smacking food. However, there are senior citizens who witness days passing by. They look forward to someone coming to meet them, to speak to them, to do something good for them. This occasion brings about an opportunity to transform celebration into compassion.

Distribution of charity on Makar Sankranti shouldn’t be treated as an obligation but an issue of one’s heart. With each instance that you help an old-age home, you essentially state that the life of every human being matters, no matter the time he or she lived for.

Through your contribution to the Sadbhavana Vrudhashram, you not only help the elderly population, you also encourage the respect and affection that the elderly should receive as human beings and not just as dependents.

The Power of Giving: More Than Financial Support

Giving is not judged by the amount of the donation but by the sincerity behind it. A donation made with compassion is able to mend the hearts of both the giver and the receiver.

A kite can soar higher if the wind gives it a helping hand,

A life can glow even more if a person is surrounded by kindness.

By making a donation, you similarly motivate others to follow your example. Your good deed has the potential to be a ripple that spreads around, thus persuading your friends, family members, and workmates to also succeed in the cause of elderly care.

How to Make Makar Sankranti Truly Auspicious

Sharing is at the heart of the message of Makar Sankranti. By helping those who have always been helping others, we essentially hold on to the values that make our society noble and humane. Supporting senior citizens, hence, is not only charity, but also a step towards showing our gratitude to them.

Imagine the happiness an old person will have when he/she is served with hot food, given the right medical treatment, or simply felt the warmth of being remembered. That is the kind of happiness that has no price.

Become the Reason for Someone’s Smile This Makar Sankranti

May your acts of kindness be more spectacular than kite flying at this festival. May your generosity be more tasty than tilgul. May your benevolence be the brightest light of the festivities.

Some smiles come as a result of laughter and fun,

Some come when someone shows that he/she really cares.

When you donate to Sadbhavana Vrudhashram, you bring peace, honor, and joy to the lives of elderly people who are at their best simply killing time.
